Privacy Policy

Last updated October 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes Kaen 2.0 for Android and kaen.space. Kaen is provided by Yousof Abouhalawa. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact me@yousofabouhalawa.com. Earlier versions and other platforms may have different features.

Your habits and writing

Your habit names, schedules, streaks, mindsets, identity statements, and journal entries are stored on your device. Kaen 2.0 does not require a Kaen account and does not send this writing to a Kaen-operated server. The app has no advertising trackers or third-party analytics.

Backups and optional sync

You can save a habit backup, import one, or connect a private folder through Android’s file picker. Backup and sync copies include habits, writing, history, settings, and merge records. Sync records use an app-generated installation identifier, not an advertising ID.

New habit backups and sync files are password-encrypted. Keep your password: Kaen cannot recover it. Older imported files may be unencrypted. Exporting your previous journal produces readable text, so choose its destination carefully.

If you choose cloud storage, your provider transfers and stores the files under its own terms and privacy policy. Use a private folder. Disconnecting sync does not delete the copies in that folder.

Notifications and widgets

Kaen schedules habit notifications locally. A notification can show a habit’s name. Device settings control notification permission, sounds, and lock-screen previews. No push token or habit text is sent to a Kaen notification server.

Habit times and preparation intervals can travel with a backup or sync copy. Each device controls notification delivery; importing a backup does not enable notifications. The optional widget opens support for an urge or a difficult start.

Premium purchases

Kaen Premium is an optional one-time Google Play purchase. Google Play processes payment under its own terms and privacy policy. Kaen does not receive your full payment-card details.

Kaen checks purchase status with Google Play and stores a device-protected access cache. Premium is restored through the purchasing Google Play account, not through a flag in a habit backup. Kaen does not operate a purchase-verification server. Your writing is not included in purchase requests.

Keeping and deleting information

You can delete habits and their history, delete journal entries, or clear all habit data in Data & storage. Previous journal entries are separate: they remain available to view and export when you clear habit data. Clear app storage or remove the app to remove all local records.

When sync is enabled, Kaen records deletion markers and applies them as connected copies successfully sync. Offline devices, earlier snapshots, exported backups, provider trash, and version history may retain older copies. To remove those copies, use the provider's deletion and backup controls on each relevant location. Kaen cannot erase a file or backup it can no longer access.

Android system backup may include app data, depending on your device and provider settings. It is separate from Kaen’s encrypted backups. Removing the app does not erase exported files or provider backups; restoring a system backup may bring back local records.

Accounts from older Kaen releases

Some older releases offered email/password accounts and account-based cloud storage. The current apps do not require those accounts or retrieve their server records. Installing the current app, deleting local entries, or uninstalling does not itself request deletion of a previous account or its cloud records.

For a request concerning an older account, email me@yousofabouhalawa.com and identify the account email and the action requested. We may need to verify account ownership before acting. Do not send a password, payment-card details, or your journal contents. We will explain any information needed to process the request and any applicable retention limits.

Support and privacy requests

If you email us, the email service processes your address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information to respond, troubleshoot, or handle your request. Share only what is needed; journal contents are not required for a general privacy inquiry.

Support correspondence is kept for as long as needed to resolve the request and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. You can ask us to delete correspondence; we will explain any information we need to retain for legal or security reasons.

The website and external services

kaen.space provides product information, support details, and app-store links. It does not host your journal or offer a Kaen account. Website hosting infrastructure may process IP addresses, requested pages, browser information, timestamps, and error information to deliver and protect the site. The current website does not include advertising trackers or a third-party analytics SDK.

When you follow an external link, make a store purchase, or use a file provider, that service's privacy policy governs its own handling of information.

Security and your choices

Local records rely on Android’s app storage protections and your device security. Habit backup and sync files have password encryption; the app does not add a separate lock or encrypt its local habit file. Protect your device, storage accounts, passwords, and notification previews. No storage or transfer method is completely secure.

You can use the habit system and journal without sync or notifications. To ask about information handled by us, contact me@yousofabouhalawa.com. For copies held by a storage provider or transaction records held by Google Play, use that service’s controls too.

Policy changes

We will update this policy when the product or its data handling changes and revise the date above. Material changes will be explained in the app, release information, or on the website as appropriate.
